A recent study by Think Tennessee revealed that a staggering 73% of single mothers in Tennessee are facing economic insecurity. In response, One Generation Away (OneGenAway) and Darrell Waltrip Subaru have shaken hands to work on this issue by taking a new initiative called the Single Moms Fund.
Already working through a decade of collaboration, OneGenAway and Darrell Waltrip Automotive Group have supported over 800,000 families through efforts like the Drive Away Hunger Challenge and food drives during Easter and Thanksgiving.
The Single Moms Fund, launched with a $12,000 donation from Darrell Waltrip Subaru, aims to offer more than just nutritious meals. It will also connect single mothers with resources to help them gain stability and work towards self-sufficiency. Great opportunity single moms, right?
“By working together, we can give these mothers the tools they need to create a better future for themselves and their children,” said Chris Whitney, founder and executive director of One Generation Away. “We believe every family should have the chance to thrive, and this expanded partnership with Darrell Waltrip Automotive Group enables us to extend even more support to single moms in our area.”
According to 2022 U.S. Census Bureau statistics, Tennessee ranks 15th in the nation for the number of households managed by single mothers. Many of these single moms struggle with balancing work, childcare, and financial responsibilities, which gives birth to the need of community-driven assistance.
Jimmy Harris, general manager of Darrell Waltrip Subaru, shared a deep interest to the cause saying: “Growing up with a single mother, this cause resonates deeply with me. When I stepped into this role, I knew that an initiative like this was crucial, and One Generation Away is the perfect partner for the Single Moms Fund.”
